CHAPTER-4⇒THREE QUESTIONS

Ans:-The learned men answered the Tsar's questions differently. (পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিরা ভিন্ন ভিন্ন ভাবে জারের প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিলেন।)

Ans:-A council of wise men could help the Tsar to fix the proper time for every action.(জ্ঞানী লোকেদের একটি পরিষদ রাজাকে সব কাজ করার সঠিক সময়টি ঠিক করে দিতে পারবে )

Ans:- Only the magicians could predict future and so they could help the Tsar to know the right time for every action. (কেবল জাদুকররাই ভবিষ্যৎ জানতে পারেন আর তাই তারা যে-কোনো কাজের সঠিক সময়টি জারকে জানতে সাহায্য করতে পারেন।)

Ans:-The learned men thought that the councillors, the priests, the doctors or the warriors would be the most important persons to the Tsar. (পণ্ডিতেরা ভাবলেন যে, মন্ত্রী, পুরোহিত, চিকিৎসক বা যোদ্ধারা জারের কাছে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তি হবেন।)

Ans:-According to the learned men, the most important occupation of the Tsar would be science or warfare or religious worship. (পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিদের মতে জারের সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজ হবে বিজ্ঞানচর্চা বা যুদ্ধ করা বা ধর্মীয় উপাসনা)

Ans:-The Tsar went to the woods to get the answers from the wise hermit. (জার জ্ঞানী সন্ন্যাসীর কাছ থেকে উত্তরগুলি পেতে বনে গেলেন।)

Ans:- The Tsar gave no reward to the learned men because he thought that their answers were incorrect. (জার পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিদের কোনো পুরস্কার দিলেন না। কারণ তিনি ভাবলেন যে, তাদের উত্তরগুলি সঠিক নয়।)

Ans:-The hermit lived in a wood. (সন্ন্যাসী বনে থাকতেন।)

Ans:- The hermit used to receive only common folk. (সন্ন্যাসী কেবল সাধারণ মানুষদের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতেন।)

Ans:-As the hermit only received common folk, he put on simple clothes before meeting the hermit. ( যেহেতু সন্ন্যাসিটি কেবলমাত্র সাধারণের সাক্ষাৎ গ্রহণ করেন, তিনি (জার) সন্ন্যাসীর সঙ্গে দেখা করার পূর্বেই পরিধান করেন।)

Ans:-The Tsar went to the wood wearing simple clothes. (জার সাধারণ পোশাক পরে বনে গেলেন।)

Ans:- The Tsar went alone to the woods. (জার একাকী বনে গেলেন।)

Ans:-The Tsar wore simple clothes, kept his horse and bodyguard at a distance and went on foot to meet the hermit. (জার সাধারণ পোশাক পরে, তার ঘোড়া ও দেহরক্ষীকে দূরে রেখে পায়ে হেঁটে সন্ন্যাসীর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গেলেন।)

Ans:-When the Tsar approached, he saw the hermit digging the ground before his hut. (জার পৌঁছে দেখলেন সন্ন্যাসী তাঁর কুটিরের সামনের জমিতে মাটি কোপাচ্ছেন।)

Ans:-The hermit greeted the Tsar. (সন্ন্যাসী জারকে অভ্যর্থনা জানালেন।)

Ans:- The hermit was frail and weak. (সন্ন্যাসী শীর্ণ ও দুর্বল ছিলেন।)

Ans:- The hermit breathed heavily because he was weak and frail and was still digging the land nonstop. (দুর্বল ও শীর্ণ সন্ন্যাসী একটানা মাটি কোপানোর জন্য হাঁপাচ্ছিলেন।)

Ans:- The hermit listened to the questions of the Tsar but gave no reply to them. (সন্ন্যাসী জারের প্রশ্ন শুনলেন কিন্তু কোনো উত্তর দিলেন না)

Ans:-The Tsar himself started digging the land and thereby helped the hermit. (জার নিজেই মাটি কোপাতে শুরু করলেন এবং তার মাধ্যমে সন্ন্যাসীকে সাহায্য করলেন।)

Ans:- The wounded man asked for drinking water when he revived. (আহত লোকটি জ্ঞান ফিরে পেয়ে পানীয় জল চাইল।)

Ans:-The wounded man slept in the hermit's hut. (আহত লোকটি সন্ন্যাসীর কুটিরে ঘুমোল)

Ans:-The Tsar slept on the floor of the hermit's hut. (জার সন্ন্যাসীর কুটিরের মেঝেতে ঘুমোলেন।)

Ans:-The Tsar saved the life of the wounded man. (জার আহত লোকটির জীবন বাঁচিয়েছিলেন।)

Ans:-The wounded man stared at the Tsar as he was saved by the person whom he wanted to kill. (আহত লোকটি জারের দিকে একদৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে রইল, কারণ সে যে লোকটির দ্বারা রক্ষা পেয়েছে তাঁকেই সে হত্যা করতে এসেছিল।)

Ans:-The wounded man was an enemy of the Tsar as the Tsar had killed his brother and seized his property. (আহত লোকটি জারের শত্রু হয়েছিল কারণ জার তার ভাইকে হত্যা করে তার সম্পত্তি দখল করেছিলেন)

Ans:- The man wanted to take revenge because the Tsar had executed the man's brother and seized his property. (লোকটি বদলা নিতে চায় কারণ জার তার ভাইকে হত্যা করেছিল ও তার সম্পত্তি কুক্ষিগত করেছিল।)

Ans:-To the Tsar's first question as to the most important time for him to begin a thing, the learned men offered varied answers. Some said that the Tsar should draw up a time table to decide the right time. Others opined to notice the goings of life and take a ready decision. Another group suggested to depend upon a group of wise men for calculating the right time. Further opinion offered to consult the magicians as they only predict the future. The different answers to the questions showed that the learned men could not find the perfect way out.

(কোনো কাজ আরম্ভ করার সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সময় কোন্‌টি, পণ্ডিতেরা জারের এই প্রশ্নের নানান ধরনের উত্তর দিলেন। কেউ কেউ বললেন যে, সঠিক সময় ঠিক করতে জারের আগে থেকেই একটি সময়-তালিকা করে নেওয়া উচিত। অন্যান্য ব্যক্তিরা মত, দিলেন জারের জীবনের বহমান ঘটনাকে লক্ষ করে তাৎক্ষণিক সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া উচিত। আর একদল ইঙ্গিত দিলেন যে, জারের উচিত একদল জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তির ওপর নির্ভর করে কাজের সঠিক সময় হিসেব করা। আরও একটি মত হল যে, জারের কেবল জাদুকরদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করা উচিত; কারণ তারাই কেবল ভবিষ্যতের আগাম আভাস দিতে পারে। প্রশ্নগুলির ভিন্ন ভিন্ন উত্তর এটিই প্রমাণ করে যে, পণ্ডিতেরা সঠিক উত্তর খুঁজে পাননি।)

Ans:- The learned men gave answers to the Tsar's questions. The Tsar had three questions.

He wanted to know the right time to start his work, the right persons he should listen to and the right work he should do. Now he invited answers by giving public declaration. Learned men came and offered varied answers to his questions. The Tsar realised that none of the answers was correct. It was because all the learned men had thought of prize money, but not of the answers. Then the Tsar went for his answers to the wood where a wise hermit lived.

(পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিরা জারের প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিলেন। জারের তিনটি প্রশ্ন ছিল।

তিনি জানতে চাইলেন তাঁর কাজ শুরু করার সঠিক সময়, কোন্ লোকেদের কথা তিনি শুনবেন আর সঠিক কোন্ কাজটি তিনি করবেন। জনগণের কাছে ঘোষণার দ্বারা তিনি এসব প্রশ্নের উত্তর জানতে চাইলেন। পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিরা তাঁর কাছে এলেন এবং তাঁর প্রশ্নের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন উত্তর দিলেন। জার বুঝতে পারলেন যে, কারও উত্তরই ঠিক নয়। এর কারণ সব পণ্ডিত ব্যক্তিই কেবল পুরস্কারের অর্থের কথা ভেবেছেন কিন্তু উত্তরের কথা ভাবেননি। এরপর তাঁর প্রশ্নের উত্তর জানতে জার বনে গেলেন যেখানে এক জ্ঞানী সন্ন্যাসী বাস করেন।)

Ans:-  The questions that had occurred to the Tsar were the right time to begin everything, the right people to listen to and the most important thing to do.

He needed correct answers to those questions because in that case he would never fail in anything he might undertake.

Being not satisfied with the answers of the learned men, he visited in disguise a hermit to get the correct answers to his three questions. The hermit gave satisfactory answers to all his questions.

(যে-প্রশ্ন তিনটি জারের মনে উদয় হয়েছিল সেগুলি হল— কোনো কাজ শুরু করার সঠিক সময়, সঠিক ব্যক্তির পরামর্শ এবং সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাজ।

তাঁর সে-প্রশ্নগুলির সঠিক উত্তর প্রয়োজন ছিল কারণ তিনি যে-কোনো কাজই করুন না কেন তাতে যেন তিনি কোনোদিন ব্যর্থ না হন।

পণ্ডিতদের উত্তরে সন্তুষ্ট না-হয়ে তিনি সেই প্রশ্নগুলির সঠিক উত্তর পাওয়ার জন্য ছদ্মবেশে এক মুনির কাছে গেলেন। মুনি তাঁর প্রশ্নগুলির সন্তোষজনক উত্তর দিয়েছিলেন।)

Ans:- Being despaired and despondent with the answers of the wise men who failed to answer the questions of the Tsar correctly, the Tsar decided to visit the hermit who was known for his wisdom and lived alone in a wood.

The Tsar went there in disguise because he knew it very well that the hermit received only common people. So he went there in simple dress and dismounted from his horse before reaching the hermit's cottage and leaving his bodyguard went alone to meet the hermit.

When the Tsar met him, the hermit was digging the ground in front of his cottage. Seeing the Tsar he greeted him and kept himself busy in digging the soil.

[বিজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিদের কাছ থেকে তাঁর প্রশ্নগুলির সঠিক উত্তর না পেয়ে হতাশ ও বীতশ্রদ্ধ হয়ে জার ঠিক করলেন সন্ন্যাসীর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করবেন যিনি তাঁর প্রাজ্ঞতার জন্য পরিচিত ছিলেন এবং জঙ্গলে একাই বসবাস করতেন।

জার ছদ্মবেশে সেখানে গিয়েছিলেন কারণ তিনি ভালোমতোই জানতেন যে, সন্ন্যাসী সাধারণ ব্যক্তি ব্যতিরেকে কারোর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করেন না। সুতরাং, তিনি সাধারণ পোশাক পরিধান করেছিলেন এবং সন্ন্যাসীর কুটিরে পৌঁছোনোর পূর্বে ঘোড়ার পিঠ থেকে অবতরণ করে, নিজস্ব দেহরক্ষীদের ছেড়ে একাই সন্ন্যাসীর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গিয়েছিলেন।

যখন তাঁর জারের সঙ্গে দেখা হল তখন সন্ন্যাসী তাঁর কুটিরের সামনে মাটি খুঁড়ছিলেন। জারকে দেখে তিনি সম্ভাষণ করলেন এবং নিজেকে মাটি খোঁড়ার কাজে ব্যাপৃত রাখলেন।]

Ans:-The old hermit is the speaker.

A bearded man was coming.

The man was actually an enemy of the Tsar. He had been in the wood for the whole day to kill the Tsar. But, he received injury at the hands of the Tsar's men. He came out of the wood to save his own life.

The bearded man followed the Tsar to the wood. The Tsar did not know this. His bodyguards identified the bearded man and attacked him. The man was seriously wounded. There was a large wound in his stomach. It was bleeding profusely.

(বৃদ্ধ সন্ন্যাসীটি হলেন বক্তা।

একজন দাড়িওয়ালা লোক আসছিল।

লোকটি প্রকৃতপক্ষে জারের শত্রু। জারকে হত্যা করার মতলবে সে সারাদিন জঙ্গলেই ছিল। কিন্তু জারের দেহরক্ষীর হাতে সে আহত হল। নিজের জীবন বাঁচানোর জন্য সে বন থেকে বেরিয়ে এল।

দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটি জারের পেছনে পেছনে বনে এসেছিল। জার এটি জানতেন না। তাঁর দেহরক্ষীরা লোকটিকে চিনে ফ্যালে। আর তাকে আক্রমণ করে। লোকটি মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হয়। তার পেটে একটি বড়ো ক্ষত ছিল। সেটি থেকে ভীষণ রক্ত ঝরছিল।)

Ans:-The bearded man was the speaker.

He said this to the Tsar.

The Tsar killed the brother of the wounded man and also seized his property. He resolved to kill the Tsar and so kept hiding, grew long beard and waited for the chance. Thus he became an enemy of the Tsar.

Eventually, the Tsar's bodyguards identified the man and wounded him seriously. He ran out of the wood. The Tsar found him bleeding and saved his life. When he realized what the Tsar had done for him, he became repentant. He was happy to confess before the Tsar.

(দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটি হল বক্তা।

সে জারকে এই কথা বলেছিল।

জার আহত লোকটির ভাইকে হত্যা করেন এবং তার সম্পত্তিও দখল করেন। সে জারকে হত্যা করার মনস্থ করল এবং সেজন্য লুকিয়ে থাকল, তার লম্বা দাড়ি গজাল এবং সুযোগের অপেক্ষা করতে থাকল। এইভাবে সে জারের শত্রু হয়ে উঠল। ঘটনাক্রমে জারের দেহরক্ষীরা তাকে চিনতে পারল ও ভয়ঙ্করভাবে আহত করল। সে বনের মধ্যে থেকে ছুটে বেরিয়ে এল। জার তাকে রক্তাক্ত দেখলেন ও তার জীবন বাঁচালেন। যখন সে বুঝতে পারে জার তার জন্য কী করেছেন, সে অনুতপ্ত হয়। সে জারের সামনে তা স্বীকার করে খুশি হয়।)

Ans:-The bearded man had become an enemy of the Tsar because the Tsar had killed the man's brother and seized his property.

The man swore to take revenge himself on the Tsar. He resolved to kill the Tsar on his way back.

He asked forgiveness of the Tsar because having been wounded by the Tsar's body guard, he would have bled to death had the Tsar himself not dressed his wound. He promised the Tsar to serve him as his most faithful slave. He added gratefully and sincerely that he would ask his sons to do the same.

[দাড়িগোঁফওয়ালা লোকটি জারের নিকট শত্রু প্রতিপন্ন হল। কারণ জার লোকটির ভাইকে হত্যা করে তার সমস্ত সম্পত্তি হস্তগত করে নেয়।

লোকটি শপথ গ্রহণ করল যে সে নিজেই জারের ওপর প্রতিশোধ গ্রহণ করবে। সে জারের ফেরার পথে তাকে হত্যা করবে বলে মনস্থির করল।

সে জারকে ক্ষমাপ্রর্থণার জন্য বলল কারণ জারের দেহরক্ষীই তাকে (ভাইকে) আঘাত করেছে যার ফলে সে মৃত্যুমুখে পতিত হয়েছে যেখানে জার তার ক্ষতস্থানটি ধুয়ে দেয়নি। সে জারের কাছে তার বিশ্বস্ত ভৃত্য হিসেবে সেবা করার প্রতি আবদ্ধ হল। সে অত্যন্ত কৃতজ্ঞতাপূর্ণ ও নিষ্ঠাভরে যোগ করল যে সে তার ছেলেকে একইরকমের কাজে লিপ্ত করতে পারবেকিনা।]

Ans:-The Tsar said this to the bearded man.

The bearded man was in a critical condition. He was badly wounded. The Tsar saved his life. He brought him to the hermit's cottage. The man slept all night there. The Tsar was sleeping on the floor. Next day the bearded man told the Tsar to forgive him. Then the Tsar said this.

The wounded man was a stranger to the Tsar. He nursed his wounds. He did not know that he was actually giving a new life to his enemy. So when the man asked for his pardon, he felt surprised. Hence the Tsar said this.

(জার দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটিকে এই কথা বলেন।

দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটির জীবন বিপন্ন ছিল। সে মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হয়েছিল। জার তার জীবন রক্ষা করেন। তিনি তাকে সন্ন্যাসীর কুটিরে আনেন। লোকটি সারারাত সেখানে ঘুমোয়। জার মেঝেতে ঘুমোচ্ছিলেন। পরদিন দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটি জারকে বলেন তাকে ক্ষমা করতে। তখন জার এই কথা বলেন।

আহত লোকটি জারের অপরিচিত। তিনি তার ক্ষতস্থানের পরিচর্যা করেন। তিনি জানতেন না যে, তিনি তার শত্রুকে নতুন জীবন দিচ্ছেন। যখন লোকটি তাঁর কাছে ক্ষমা চাইল তিনি অবাক হয়ে গেলেন। তাই জার এই কথা বললেন)
