Lesson 1, Tales of Bhola Grandpa

Ans. When Bhola Grandpa died his wife was eighty years old. [ভোলাদাদু মারা যাওয়ার সময় তাঁর স্ত্রীর বয়স ছিল আশি।]

Ans. Bhola Grandpa made a request of giving him some drinking water. [ভোলাদাদু কিছুটা পানীয় জল দেওয়ার অনুরোধ করেছিলেন।]

Ans. When Bhola Grandpa lost his grandson, he let out a loud wail. [ভোলাদাদু যখন তাঁর নাতিকে হারিয়ে  ফেলেছিলেন, তিনি জোরে কেঁদে উঠেছিলেন।]

Ans. They lived at the western part of the narrator's village. [তাঁরা কথকদের গ্রামের পশ্চিমাংশে বাস করতেন।]

Ans. The narrator with others was returning on a moonlit night from a festival. [অন্যদের সাথে বক্তা চাঁদনি  রাতে উৎসব থেকে ফিরছিলেন।]

Ans. Bhola Grandpa's grandson and a few villagers were with him. [ভোলাদাদুর নাতি এবং কয়েকজন গ্রামবাসী তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন।]

Ans. In the evening, Bhola Grandpa faced Royal Bengal tiger. [সন্ধ্যাবেলায়, ভোলাদাদু একটি রয়্যাল বেঙ্গল বাঘের মুখোমুখি হন।]

Ans. Bhola Grandpa almost lost his senses out of fear. [ভোলাদাদু ভয়ে প্রায় অজ্ঞান হয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন।]

Ans. It was a large bokal tree which overshadowed Bhola Grandpa's hut. [বকুলগাছটা বেশ বড়ো ছিল এবং সেটি ভোলাদাদুর কুঁড়েঘরকে রোদ থেকে আড়াল করত।]

Ans. They searched for the hidden treasure from afternoon to past midnight. [তাঁরা বিকাল থেকে মধ্যরাত্রির পর পর্যন্ত গুপ্তধনের খোঁজ করেছিলেন।]

Ans. They had no objection to the monkeys living in the bokal tree. [বকুলগাছে বসবাসকারী বানরদের বিষয়ে  তাঁদের কোনও আপত্তি ছিল না।]

Ans. The story of hidden treasure under the sand dunes was told by Bhola Grandpa. But actually it was seen by him in his dream. [বালিয়াড়ির নীচেগুপ্তধনের গল্প বলেছিলেন ভোলাদাদু। কিন্তু এটি ছিল তাঁর স্বপ্নে  দেখা দৃশ্যমাত্র।]

Ans. The tiger roared and circled the tree about a hundred times after Bhola Grandpa had climbed it. Then the tiger settled down under a bush and  kept him watching. [ভোলাদাদু গাছটিতে উঠে পড়ার পর  বাঘটি গর্জন করেছিল এবং গাছটিকে ঘিরে প্রায় একশোবার পাক খেয়েছিল। তারপর বাঘটি একটি ঝোপের তলায় স্থির হয়ে বসে পড়ে তাঁর দিকে নজর রাখল।]

Ans. Bhola Grandpa's wife held her husband's forgetfulness responsible for his death. She said,  Bhola Grandpa must have forgotten to breathe.  So, he died. [ভোলাদাদুর স্ত্রী তাঁর স্বামীর ভুলোমনা স্বভাবকে  তাঁর মৃত্যুর জন্য দায়ী করেছিলেন। তিনি বলেছিলেন, ভোলাদাদু  নিশ্চয় শ্বাস নিতে ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন। তাই তিনি মারা  গিয়েছিলেন।]

Ans. The man on the mound noticed the hungry tiger. He also saw Bhola Grandpa walking past the  tiger but it did nothing. So, he was much bewildered. [ঢিবির ওপর থাকা লোকটি ক্ষুধার্ত বাঘটিকে খেয়াল করেছিল। সে এটাও দেখেছিল ভোলাদাদু বাঘের পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে চলে আসলেন অথচ সেটি কিছু করল না। তাই সে প্রচণ্ড বিস্মিত হয়েছিল।]

Ans. As the path was long and foggy, the narrator was riding on the village chowkidar's shoulders while coming back from the festival. [যেহেতু পথ ছিল দীর্ঘ এবং কুয়াশাচ্ছন্ন, তাই বক্তা গ্রামের চৌকিদারের কাঁধে চেপে উৎসব থেকে ফিরছিল।]

Ans. In those days Royal Bengal tigers roamed freely in the dense forest of the Sunderbans. So, people used to move only in groups, particularly after sunset. [তখনকার দিনে সুন্দরবনের ঘন জঙ্গলে রয়্যাল বেঙ্গল বাঘ অবাধে ঘুরে বেড়াত। তাই লোকজন শুধু দল বেঁধে  যাতায়াত করত, বিশেষত সূর্যাস্তের পর।]

Ans. Bhola Grandpa did not notice when and how his grandson was lost. He misguided the narrator’s father and his friends by telling them about a fictitious treasure hidden in the seashore.  [নাতি কখন কীভাবে হারিয়ে গিয়েছিল ভোলাদাদু তা খেয়াল করেননি। তিনি কথকের বাবা ও তাঁর বন্ধুদের সমুদ্রতীরে লুকিয়ে রাখা গুপ্তধনের কথা বলে ভুল পথে চালিত  করেছিলেন।]

Ans. Two sharp-eyed men were selected by the narrator’s father. They went back to the festival with Bhola Grandpa. There the grandson was discovered under a cow's belly. [বক্তার বাবা দুজন প্রখর দৃষ্টিশক্তিসম্পন্ন ব্যক্তিকে বেছে নিয়েছিলেন। তারা ভোলাদাদুর সঙ্গে উৎসবের জায়গায় ফিরে গিয়েছিল। সেখানে নাতিটিকে খুঁজে পাওয়া যায় একটি গোরুর পেটের নীচে।]

Ans. When Bhola Grandpa walked past the tiger, he had forgotten its existence. But when he saw it, he almost fainted out of fear. [যখন ভোলাদাদু  বাঘটির পাশ দিয়ে হেঁটে এসেছিলেন, তখন তিনি এটির  অস্তিত্বের কথা ভুলে গিয়েছিলেন। কিন্তু যখন তিনি একে দেখেন, তিনি ভয়ের চোটে প্রায় মূৰ্চ্ছা গিয়েছিলেন।]
