Lesson 11, A Shipwrecked Sailor

Ans. He pitched his tent on the flat green surface just before the hollow on the hill. [পাহাড়ের গায়ে, একটি গর্তের সামনে, সবুজ সমতলে তিনি তাঁবু খাটিয়েছিলেন।]

Ans. Crusoe went over the fence by using a short ladder. [ক্রুশো একটা ছোটো মই ব্যবহার করে বেড়া টপকাতেন।]

Ans. He kept a journal to record the details of his everyday affairs in the island. [ওই দ্বীপে তিনি তাঁর রোজকার কাজকর্মের খুঁটিনাটি লিপিবদ্ধ করার জন্য দিনপঞ্জি রাখতেন।]

Ans. The incident of shipwreck occurred because of a violent storm in the sea. [জাহাজডুবির ঘটনা ঘটেছিল সমুদ্রে প্রচণ্ড ঝড়ের জন্য।]

Ans. Crusoe was fearful about the wild animals which might devour him. [ক্রুশো ভীত ছিলেন যে বন্যজন্তুরা তাঁকে খেয়ে ফেলতে পারে।]

Ans. After Robinson had reached the island, rain continued through the week thereafter. [রবিনসন দ্বীপে পৌঁছানোর পর আরও এক সপ্তাহ ধরে বৃষ্টি হয়েছিল।]

Ans. On the rocky wall the hollow was like the entrance of a cave. [পাথুরে দেয়ালে গর্তের মতো জায়গাটি ছিল অনেকটা গুহার প্রবেশপথের মতো।]

Ans. Crusoe drove the stakes into the ground in a semicircle around his tent for protection. [ক্রুশো সুরক্ষার জন্য কাঠের খুঁটিগুলি তাঁর তাঁবুর চারপাশে অর্ধ-বৃত্তাকারে মাটির মধ্যে পুঁতেছিলেন।]

Ans. Crusoe had cut with his knife upon a large post, the date of his landing. Thereafter he put a notch with his knife for everyday. [ক্রুশো একটি বড়ো। খুঁটিতে অবতরণের তারিখটা ছুরি দিয়ে কেটে লিখেছিলেন। তার  পর থেকে প্রত্যেকদিনের জন্য তিনি ছুরি দিয়ে একটি করে দাগ কাটতেন।]

Ans. From the wreck Robinson Crusoe rescued some wood, cable, string, a knife, nails, a gun, a hammock, some canvas, some paper and ink and some money. [ভাঙা জাহাজের ধ্বংসাবশেষ থেকে রবিনসন ক্রুশো উদ্ধার করেছিলেন কিছু কাঠ, মোটা তার, দড়ি, একটি ছুরি, পেরেক, বন্দুক, একটি নেটের দোলনা, কিছু ক্যানভাস-কাপড়, কিছু কাগজ ও কালি এবং কিছু টাকা।]

Ans. Crusoe collected a little tallow and a small clay dish. To this he added a wick. In this way he made himself a lamp. [ক্রুশো কিছুটা প্রাণীজ ফ্যাট এবং একটি ছোটো মাটির থালা জোগাড় করেছিলেন। এতে তিনি একটি সলতে যোগ করলেন। এইভাবে নিজেই একটি প্রদীপ বানিয়েছিলেন।]

Ans. At the time of particular survey of the island, Crusoe found a brook with pleasant meadows by the bank, plain, smooth and covered by grass. [দ্বীপটি বিশেষভাবে পরিদর্শন করায় সময় ক্রুশো একটি ছোটো নদী দেখতে পেলেন, তার তীরের পাশে এক মনোরম মাঠ, সমতল, মসৃণ এবং ঘাসে ঢাকা।]

Ans. In the woody part of the island, Crusoe found melons and grapes in great abundance. He also found cocoa, orange and lemon trees. [দ্বীপের গাছপালায় ঢাকা অংশে ক্রুশো প্রচুর পরিমাণে তরমুজ জাতীয় ফল এবং আঙুর দেখতে পেয়েছিলেন। তা ছাড়াও তিনি কোকো, কমলালেবু এবং লেবু গাছও দেখেছিলেন।]

Ans. No passing ship could find Crusoe in the valley of fruits. So, he wished to stay in the view of the sea. Hence he did not change his habitation. [কোনও জাহাজ যেতে যেতে ক্রুশোকে ফলের উপত্যকায় খুঁজে পেত না। তাই তিনি সমুদ্র দৃষ্টিগোচর হয়, এমন জায়গায় থাকতে চেয়েছিলেন। এজন্য তিনি তাঁর বাসস্থান বদলাননি।]

Ans. Robinson counted days and months by putting a notch with his knife for everyday on a large post after 30.09.1659. [৩০.০৯.১৬৫৯-এর পর প্রতিটি দিনের জন্য রবিনসন একটা বড়ো খুঁটির ওপর ছুরি দিয়ে দাগ কেটে দিন ও মাস গণনা করতেন।]
